Dr. Omar Viswanath is a Double Board-Certified Anesthesiologist and Interventional Pain Medicine Physician. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, as well as holding a Subspecialty Certification in Pain Medicine.
He was born and raised in Naperville, Illinois, which is a suburb of Chicago. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, and his Medical Degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He then completed his anesthesiology residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center of Florida in Miami Beach, Florida where he also served as chief resident, and his interventional pain medicine fellowship at Harvard-Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
He is a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at Creighton University School of Medicine, Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at LSU Health Sciences School of Medicine, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. He is actively involved in research with the medical students, residents, and fellows at all three medical schools. He currently has over 400 PubMed indexed research article publications and he serves on the Editorial Board of several prestigious peer-reviewed anesthesiology and pain medicine journals. Dr. Viswanath has also been recognized as a Phoenix Magazine Top Doc for the 2022 and 2023 award as voted on by his fellow physicians.
His areas of expertise are in interventional pain medicine from both an interventional procedural and a multimodal treatment aspect, neuromodulation, analgesic medication optimization, headache management with a focus on both pharmacologic and interventional therapy, pain medicine training, and education, and pain psychology.
